Dear friends of line 9, we bring you a very sad message. As you already know, for the past 2 months and for the next 3, the lime green line trains will be regularly at a standstill, and this will be total. Closures will be spread over several weekends until June, lasting between 1 and 2 days. And to top it all off, RATP has just confirmed the rumors about a complete shutdown of the line next August… Cheers!

A Black Week on the Green Line

We know that summer often brings great chaos to the metro and RER lines of the Paris network. This is understandable, as many people are lucky enough to go on vacation, leaving the streets of the capital and the subway corridors deserted. However, a few brave souls continue to wander through it all despite everything. And for these poor souls…Forgotten summer vacations, unfortunately, it's often a real challenge to get around.

2025 won't be any different in this regard, as announcements are already pouring in from all sides. The latest one? The complete closure of the line 9 for a whole week at the beginning of August. Indeed, starting from Monday, August 4 at 10:45 PM until Friday, August 8 inclusive, no trains will run on the line. Replacement buses will be set up on two sections of the route, between Pont de Sèvres and Michel-Ange – Auteuil and between Nation and Mairie de Montreuil. For the rest of the journey, you'll need to manage with transfers.

A new control system

The reason for this unexpected closure is "the new control system being implemented...

acute;lioration of the train control system ». A huge modernization project that will bring trains closer together, ensure more fluidity, and regularity. This is fantastic news, but here's the catch: implementing a new onboard system, essential for these optimizations, has to be done directly from the train drivers' cabins, requiring a complete halt of the line while all the trains are being equipped.

So, here it is, such a project takes time. And while 5 out of the 8 pre-festival black days have already happened, there are still 3 scattered here and there before tackling the major shutdown this summer. Make sure to mark May 4th and 31st, as well as June 1st in your calendars, during which the line will be completely shut down all day long. We prefer to look on the bright side and think that, normally – and we really emphasize that word – in 4 months, all our worries will be over, and that line 9 will be running wonderfully. We’re allowed to dream, right?
