It’s being called a “weather bomb.” The shadow of Storm Eowyn hangs over the United Kingdom, and also over the north of France: the winds will be gentler than across the Channel, but they could still gust up to 80-90 km/h along the coast and in Île-de-France. From heavy rains are set to hit the region starting this Thursday, January 23, and they’re expected to last until next week: it’s time to dig out those umbrellas, or find some shelter!

Softer temperatures to welcome the rain

You’ve probably noticed that the icy air following the holidays has timidly warmed up since the beginning of the week. Gone are the chilly 1, 2, or 3 degrees during the day: starting today, temperatures are reaching 8 degrees on Thursday, 11 degrees on Friday, and even climbing to 13 degrees next Monday.

However, with each silver lining comes a cloud: alongside this winter warmth is the wind from the Eowyn depression. While France is on the “fringe of the storm ”, gusts are expected starting this Thursday that will intensify tomorrow, even in Île-de-France. As explained here, things are going to get interesting!

Le Parisien, the German weather model Icon predicts gusts reaching up to 80 km/h in the department on Friday morning. The wind is expected to calm down between late morning and the afternoon.

The Yvelines and Val-d'Oise Under the Gusts

Météo France is forecasting winds reaching around 55 km/h this Thursday afternoon, especially in the Yvelines. The gusts will pick up on Friday, potentially hitting 65 km/h in the afternoon. The departments of Yvelines and Val-d'Oise are expected to experience the strongest of these winds. In the Petite Couronne area, the wind is expected to blow at 55 km/h, and this weather will last until early evening. There will also be showers of varying intensity forecasted every day until Wednesday, January 29.
