It's going to be a « black day » in the public transport of the capital. Indeed, as the 4 largest unions of the Paris transport authority are on strike, a number of lines will experience disruptions, and even almost complete stoppages. A « historic mobilization » according to the organizers, which is likely to complicate your travels throughout the day. Let's take a look line by line.

A massive movement

This Thursday, September 18 is expected to bring back some unpleasant memories for some of us, transporting us back in time directly to winter 2019. Indeed, while RATP has announced a huge strike movement for several weeks now, nearly 80% of drivers are already planning to not work.

will show up at their post the day after tomorrow. An astronomical proportion that, of course, doesn’t come without consequences.

« Some lines are closed and others partially open », announced yesterday the unions behind the movement, which is a result of a protest against working conditions, as well as the 2026 budget and Emmanuel Macron's policy. This has nothing to do with the slight disruptions from September 10, during the operation « Block Everything ». So, what does it actually mean in practice?

Traffic, line by line

Okay, let's start with the good news: 3 lines will be 100% operational throughout the day, namely the 3 automatic lines: line 1, line 4, and line 14. The bad news is that it will be a mess on all the other lines.

.

On lines 7, 9, 10, and 13, the service will be "disrupted", and only available during peak hours. For the other lines, namely 2, 3, 3bis, 5, 6, 7bis, 8, 11, and 12, the circulation will be "very disrupted", and once again, only during peak hours. In general, you should not expect more than one metro out of two, much less on certain lines, and it will only be available between 6:30 AM and 9:30 AM, and then between 4:30 PM and 7:30 PM.

The traffic will also be subject to changes on the RER A and B, and some bus lines could be completely closed, as specified by RATP. The details of the affected lines will likely be available on the day itself. For trams, only the T5, T7, and T8 will be slightly disrupted. In any case, we advise you to favor teleworking and limit your travel as much as possible using public transport!
