Back to school is approaching and calls for strikes are multiplying. “Let’s block the country on September 10th,” is the message we see online and on social media to oppose the removal of two public holidays proposed in the government’s plan, announced by François Bayrou, in an effort to achieve 44 billion euros in savings. More and more people are joining the movement
Initially, the calls for a strike were launched on a discreet Telegram channel last May, before being taken up by the account “The Essentials”. On July 24, on TikTok, the group called for a complete shutdown of the country: “On September 10, 2025, France is going into lockdown. That day, we will not go out. No work, no school, no shopping. Just the silence of a people reclaiming their power.”
Political figures from the right, left, and extremes have also joined the movement. In a text published in La Tribune du Dimanche, Jean-Luc Mélenchon and members of LFI have notably expressed their support for the movement.
« Block Everything » on September 10th.
What to Expect in Paris ?
While the scale of the mobilization is still unclear, it’s gradually rallying more and more people. According to Jérôme Fourquet, head of the Opinion department at Ifop, who was interviewed by Le Point, « The ingredients of anger [from the yellow vests seven years ago] have not disappeared. And it is on these still glowing embers that the government has poured a can of gasoline with its austerity plan [...], the spark being the removal of two public holidays. »
Currently, the union Force ouvrière and the Mines-Energy federation of the CGT are calling for a strike on September 10th. However, no official strike notice has been registered yet.
osé. "I don't really feel like it's working very well," admitted a government source to the AFP, before adding that it’s not impossible to "be mistaken, there were many who didn't feel the yellow vests and they showed up."Voir cette publication sur Instagram
