While 2024 has already been marked by its fair share of advancements in the Grand Paris Express project, 2025 has decided to keep up the momentum, continuing to develop the transportation network, especially the metro lines. And to start the year off beautifully, it’s the highly anticipated opening of the Villejuif – Gustave Roussy station that will kick things off, connecting the lines 14 and 15!
A metro buried 50 meters underground
In just 15 days, more than 100,000 daily users are expected at this new station like no other, with a stunning design that is simply fascinating. And for good reason, there are 9 levels plunging underground waiting for passengers!
those who will enter through one of the 6 access points. They will then need to plunge into the twists and turns of the earth to reach the platform of 14 at -7, or that of 15 at -9, nearly 50 meters below sea level.

To serve this underground labyrinth, designed by architect Dominique Perrault (who is also behind the BnF and its four monumental books), residents of Île-de-France will have access to 32 escalators and 16 elevators. And, of course, every area of this new building will be accessible to people with reduced mobility (PMR). However, while January 18 will mark the opening of the 8th and final new station on line 14, we will have to wait until summer 2026 to enjoy the connection with line 15.
A true gem of light
To (literally) crown the design like no other for this station, the architect envisioned a huge v...rounded and striped back, like a circus tent. A gigantic well of light that will allow daylight to illuminate the entire building, all the way down to the depths of the docks.

Cette semaine, les équipes de @GustaveRoussy ont eu le plaisir de visiter la future station de métro de la @Ligne14_RATP, tant attendue pour les patients suivis et pour les collaborateurs de l'Institut.

Another ceiling will stand out from the rest, the platform of line 15, which will be fully covered by an artwork by the Chilean artist Iván Navarro. It will be crafted using 58 illuminated boxes — just to keep shining a little light on the path — featuring the names of some stellar bodies. Join us in 2026 to see all of this.
