It was a truly unique moment, one that will undoubtedly remain etched in our memories. Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 7:20 PM, a total solar eclipse began. It reached its peak around 8:20 PM, before ending around 9:30 PM. In the capital, Buttes-Chaumont, Belleville Park, André Citroën Park, and Montmartre filled with Parisians and tourists alike, protective glasses on their eyes, eager to witness this historic event — the next one of its kind won't occur until 2081.
A phenomenon particularly visible in Western Europe
From France to England, passing through Spain… European countries were fortunate to enjoy the wonderful spectacle offered by
the eclipse. In Spain, moreover, part of the country was plunged into complete darkness.A majestic moment that's not without consequences for those who might have observed the Sun without protection : from the start of the evening, calls to the ophthalmological emergency rooms at the Adolphe de Rothschild Foundation Hospital in Paris multiplied, as revealed by our colleagues at the Dauphiné Libéré.
