After Action making waves all over France, especially in Paris with the recent opening of a new store near Place de la Bastille, here comes another discount store stirring up excitement in the capital. Lidl, the favorite grocery store of the French, might soon continue its expansion with the potential opening of a store at Place de la République.

A project currently under discussion

While nothing has been finalized yet, the project for a new Lidl store located at 10 place de la République will be presented on Friday, September 26, 2025, to the Departmental Commission for Commercial Development in Paris, as revealed by our colleagues from Actu.fr. The store would cover an area of 1556 m2

Lidl, a brand highly appreciated by the French

Unlike Action stores that are still relatively few in number, Lidl has garnered quite a following!

In Paris intra muros, Lidl already has nearly 20 stores in the capital. On a European scale, the chain is present in 26 countries with over 11,400 stores, a large portion of which are in Germany. Currently, there are nearly 1600 Lidl stores in France. It was only in 2023 that the chain offered its online shopping service in France for the first time, further emphasizing the meaning of its slogan “the real price of good things.” In 2024, an Opinionway survey was conducted among the French to learn about their habits and preferences regarding grocery stores. 67% said that Lidl helps them improve their purchasing power. Leclerc came in second with 62% of the opinions, and Intermarché took third with 52%. Will the German hard-discount brand created in 1930 continue its Parisian expansion? Only time will tell!
