At the end of November, Anne Hidalgo announced that she will not run again for the 2026 municipal elections, much to the delight of many Parisians. Since then, the race for succession has been in full swing, and various candidates are bringing forward a mix of ideas to stand out. Among them, Rémi Féraud, former socialist mayor of the 10th and backed by the outgoing mayor, is proudly championing a project that we can all get behind: making Paris a “feminist city”.

Fighting the taboo around periods and precariousness

According to recent studies, one in three people faces lack of access to hygiene products. This issue primarily affects “women experiencing homelessness,” and Rémi Féraud is determined to tackle it head-on if he is elected.

The next mayor of the capital next year. To achieve this, he recently proposed the idea of setting up welcome spaces with free distribution of menstrual products. This initiative is already in place at some locations, and he hopes to expand it by the end of his potential term to include all public places in the city, across each district of the capital. These locations would also provide a greater protection and better support for women, who are the "primary victims of violence."

A Much Bigger Fight

In his desire to make Paris a " feminist city ", the candidate for the throne of the City Hall aims to multiply awareness campaigns about gender inequalities, to make real changes once and for all. For Rémi Féraud, the goal is to "enable as many people as possible to interpret the subtle signals of psychological or economic violence ". This work starts at a very young age, right within the schools of the capital, where he plans to increase policies in favor of gender equality for girls and boys, by fighting against gender stereotypes. Well, we don’t know yet who we’ll vote for next year, but we won't lie to you, we’re really intrigued by proposals like these…
