When you book a weekend in Rome, you generally know what to expect. Ice cream, pasta, and pizza that will make your head spin, art and amazing monuments at every corner, and a weather that will make all your friends back home green with envy. And then there's the Colosseum, the Sistine Chapel, the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, the Borghese Gallery… In short, all those places to see at least once in your life, or even two or three times, just for the fun of it.

In any case, we can’t get enough of going back again and again, always on the lookout for new spots that will make our hearts flutter. And after a few romantic weekends wandering the streets of Trastevere and watching the sunset from the heights of the Piazza di Spagna, you could almost say that the true city of love might just well be Rome (sorry, native Parisians). So here’s a little tour of h.

For a 5-Star Sleep

Hotel de la Ville

Perfectly located at the top of the famous steps of the Piazza di Spagna – walked by none other than Audrey Hepburn herself in Roman Holiday – Hotel de la Ville, part of Rocco Forte Hotels, is a delightful blend of Roman romance and modern comfort. Inside this lovely 18th-century palazzo, you'll find a caring staff, luxurious rooms and suites, an ultra-restorative Roman spa, fabulously decorated lounges, and a plethora of typical Italian terraces where you can enjoy a peaceful breakfast (the scrambled eggs done carbonara style are a must-try!). To top it all off, the Cielo Bar rooftop will literally take you to cloud nine with its stunning views of the whole city. It's the perfect spot to wrap up your evening with a signature cocktail in hand while gazing at the magnificent monuments of the city.

For a delicious tête-à-tête

Osteria Der Belli

When you think of Italy, you think of pasta galore! And in our opinion (and many others), for a cozy dinner tête-à-tête, it’s definitely in Trastevere where the magic happens. As cliché as it sounds, this neighborhood buzzes from dawn till dusk and is packed with delightful Italian trattorias where you can settle in. Our top pick? L'Osteria Der Belli, a local favorite that showcases fresh fish and seafood. People come for the grilled octopus, spaghetti alle vongole or lobster, all topped off with a stunning tiramisu!

Nino

Just a stone's throw from the bustling Via del Corso, this historic restaurant has been delighting locals and travelers alike since 1934. And judging by its popularity, it's still going strong! Nino and his charming trattoria vibe whip up to-die-for Tuscan and Roman specialties every day, including the must-try artichokes in olive oil, beef carpaccio with parmesan, and the star of the menu: fresh pasta sprinkled with a cloud of truffle. Mamma mia!

Regoli Pasticceria

To all our dear readers and sweet tooth enthusiasts: don’t miss out on the amazing pastries that Italy has to offer! With Regoli Pasticceria, you’ll have plenty to satisfy your cravings! Along with a wonderful selection of cannoli, amaretti, and cookies of all kinds, this spot is well-known for serving one of the best maritozzo in Rome. For those who might not know, a maritozzo is basically a large, fluffy brioche (very) generously stuffed with cream. Let me tell you, it can get a bit messy, but it’s so delicious…

Gelateria del Teatro

What would a trip to Italy be without a delicious break at one of the city's traditional ice cream shops? If you find yourself in Rome, make sure to stop by Gelateria del Teatro for a tasty raid of gelatti. Here, ice creams and sorbets take center stage (of course) with classic flavors ranging from fior di latte to pistachio, as well as more unique ones like ricotta-fig and Sicilian wine. Enjoy sharing it all!

For a Romantic Stroll Off the Beaten Path

The Farnesina Villa

In the heart of the Trastevere neighborhood and away from the heavily visited Borghese Villa, the Farnesina Villa is a dreamy setting for a charming and romantic walk. A grand building dating back to the 16th century, with beautifully adorned walls and ceilings – typical of Italy – as well as an enchanting private garden filled with blooming roses and lemon trees, alongside lovely pathways and discreet fountains.

The Baths of Caracalla

As you may know, Rome is an open-air museum. Just take a few steps, and a wonder appears right before your eyes. So, if you love old stones and beautiful stories – and you’ve seen the Colosseum and the Roman Forum countless times – why not discover the Baths of Caracalla? The promise? A romantic stroll through Ancient Rome with the grandest and most luxurious Roman baths wonderfully preserved. It’s definitely worth the detour!

Cinema Farnese

One thing is for sure, in Rome, you walk a lot. And I must admit, the public transport in the city is not always the best, forcing us poor homebodies and couch potatoes to use our legs to get from point A to point B. It's the best way to truly soak in all the surrounding beauty, you might say. But sometimes, you just need to take a little break. That’s why we decided to hide away in a dark theater for a well-deserved Italian film. At the Campo de' Fiori market square (another must-visit), the historic Farnese cinema offers the best films to enjoy with your loved ones.
