Ah, the RER… What a vast topic! It’s often hated by Parisians, who swear by the metro and see it as a seedy place where Satan reigns supreme. On the flip side, it’s praised by suburbanites, who see it as a way to escape and enjoy the pleasures of the capital in just a few minutes. Unfortunately, everyone agrees that, no matter the line, its operation is far too often chaotic. And bad news, this SNCF announcement only confirms it.

Six dark weeks on the yellow line

One week, that’s okay. Two, why not. Three, we’re starting to reach our limit, but still manageable. But now, the SNCF has truly pushed the boundaries of our tolerance, and that of all the RER C users in the Île-de-France, by announcing a whopping 6 consecutive weeks of service interruptions this summer.

And on top of that, the closures will take place on several sections of the line, just to make sure to really inconvenience everyone.

So, yes, we know, it's pretty logical to do this in the summer, because people go on vacation, the capital empties out, and so do its transports, and blah blah blah. However, some of us are stuck in the heart of Paris during a heatwave to pay the rent, and the RER C usually offers a great way out for some fun and economical getaways on the weekends.

A Depressing Summer

Behind this incredibly inconvenient closure lie maintenance and modernization works on the lines. And while nothing has been officially confirmed for now, this project should take place, according to predictions from France 3 Paris Île-de-France, from July 15 to August 23. That is, basically for the entire time.

It's the big summer vacation, you know… According to these rumors, no trains will be running between Versailles and Paris, between Avenue Henri-Martin and Ermont-Eaubonne, and finally between Massy-Palaiseau and Pont de Rungis. We should know more by the end of the month, and we promise to keep you updated as quickly as possible so you can brace yourself for the summer madness.
