Some news comes as little surprise, yet it never fails to make our stomachs churn. Deloitte recently published the 14th edition of its Property Index, revealing the state of the European real estate market, and the news isn’t glorious. Guess what? Among the cities in the 28 European countries analyzed, Paris ranks in the Top 3 most expensive cities for renters.

France, Luxembourg, and Ireland: the Trio of Least Accessible Cities for Renters
While it's not in first place, it does come in a strong second place in the ranking. With an average of 32 € per square meter, the French capital sits just behind Luxembourg, where prices reach 43.4 € per square meter, and just ahead of Dublin, where you’ll need to budget around 31.7 € per square meter. Following this ‘losing’ trio, we also see cities like Barcelona (Spain), Oslo (Norway), Madrid (Spain), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Copenhagen (Denmark), London (United Kingdom), Galway (Ireland), Milan (Italy), Helsinki (Finland), Munich (Germany), Cork (Ireland), Trondheim (Norway), The Hague (Netherlands), Bergen (Norway), and Rotterdam (Netherlands), where the average price per square meter ranges from 20 € to 29.9 €. On the buying side, it's .Amsterdam seems to top the list of European cities that are the hardest to access. You'd need to earn 15 times the average annual salary just to invest in a 70 square meter apartment.
Six European cities deemed the least expensive
When it comes to renting, the index also looks at the most affordable cities, which are also the least in demand. Vlorë (Albania), Durrës (Albania), Ankara (Turkey), Plovdiv (Bulgaria), Banja Luka (Bosnia-Herzegovina), and Izmir (Turkey) are among the top cities with the lowest prices, ranging from €4.9 to €6.2 per square meter, completely smashing all records.
