It seems that the Parisian weather just loves to keep us on our toes! After a week of cold, snow, and wind, a little warm spell has allowed the bravest among us to enjoy the terraces in the evening. It’s such a delightful rise in the temperatures, but it was supposed to end this week with the arrival of a polar vortex. However, for now, even though we've lost a few degrees, the temperature is still quite nice considering we are in January. Unfortunately, in the coming days, we might just face another drop.
The Atlantic, our savior
About ten days ago, we were warning you about the potential arrival of a pocket of icy air from northern Europe that was expected to hit the capital starting Sunday, January 25. However, it seems that the ever-changing weather of the past few weeks has taken a different turn.e;cidé to give us a little breather. Indeed, for now, while the polar cold has indeed left the northern regions to approach our borders, it seems to only gently brush the north of the country, without venturing any further. An unusual current, due to the influence of winds coming from the Atlantic, is currently protecting us from snowstorms and drastic temperature drops, like those happening in Germany or the &United States, for example, which are experiencing unprecedented cold waves.
Il est frappant d’observer la persistance d’un flux d’ouest, piloté par le jet-stream, qui s’étire de l’#Amérique du Nord vers l’#Europe du Nord et devrait se maintenir au cours des prochains jours. A Fragile Balance
Even though the majority of the country is currently protected, it might be that, in the coming weeks, the weather could worsen, with some cold air masses moving further south. These air currents could bring quite intense consequences, like the return of snow — after all, why not, Paris, looking beautiful in a white coat — but also a thermostat that could drop into the negatives, reaching the -10°C mark. And that’s definitely less fun. This scenario, expected to hit the first decade of February, is still considered minority, and for now, the trend is more toward maintaining the current weather conditions. So, let’s keep an eye on it; whatever happens, we’ll see!
