A desire to turn towards a greener environment
Leaving, yes, but where to go? In general, 79% of the concerned residents of the Paris region say they are looking for a living environment that is less stressful, less noisy, and less polluted. The desire to live closer to nature is one of the major motivations for leaving Paris. 58% say they want to be closer to the sea or the ocean. Some barriers still prevent Francilians from taking the plunge. Employment and the desire to maintain a salary level equivalent to that of Paris are the main obstacles, although the development of telecommuting supports mobility projects. 60% would even be willing to change industries or 44% would be willing to regularly commute to Paris.
The declining population of the capital
Since the 1930s, the population of Paris has been decreasing. On average, 120,000 people leave the capital each year between 2013 and 2017, according to INSEE.
