It’s summer, and that means one thing: the return of shooting stars by the hundreds! Great news, a meteor shower or “shooting star” event is happening at the end of the month. Known as the June Bootids, they usually occur between June 22 and July 2, and this year, the peak will be on Saturday, June 27. Keep your eyes wide open!

Unpredictable Meteors

On average, one to two shooting stars can be seen during this time of the year. However, it's entirely possible that more meteors will light up the sky. Back in 1998, the June Bootids showcased some unusual activity with 50 to 100 meteors visible per hour. The same was observed in 2004 with 20 to 50 meteors per hour

A Summer Full of Celestial Activities and Shooting Stars

Astronomy lovers will have plenty to enjoy this summer, as a significant number of meteor showers are set to occur throughout the season and into September. Pegasids, Gamma Draconids, Perseids… The best time to watch will be on evenings with peak activity. It’s ideal to enjoy this activity during the New Moon or when the sky is at its darkest.

Another can't-miss event this summer: a rare solar eclipse that will plunge part of Europe into darkness! Scheduled for August 12th, it follows the eclipse of August 11, 1999 and precedes…

the next one will only take place on September 3, 2081. It will be essential to have special glasses to observe this event — looking at the Sun with the naked eye can lead to serious burns.
