Serge Gainsbourg is everywhere. Emblematic figure of music, honored in a biopic a few years ago, and now at the heart of the Parisian art scene thanks to two exhibitions dedicated to him, the singer finds himself in the middle of a controversy as the RATP has unveiled its intention to give its name to a new station.

A shame for the victims

There you have it. Let's not forget that his career, although prolific and successful, is far from spotless. The tendencies towards violence against women, pedophilia, and even incest contained in some of his songs are widely known, and it's understandable why those who have decided to react are outraged.

Therefore, a petition was launched on the website Change.org on November 26th, which has already gathered over 3000 signatures (out of a goal of 5000). The creator of the petition hopes that Île-de-France Mobilités will reconsider and choose to pay tribute to "other men than those who [...] sang sadistic femicides and incestuous rapes" through the name of this station.

And if, on top of that, we could take advantage of it to honor women a little more, that would be really great. Because let's remember that, until the extension of line 4 as part of the Grand Paris a few months ago, only 7 stations out of the 309 in the capital had female names. And even if there are 2 or 3 more now, it's still a bit limited...
