We knew it for a few weeks. Yet, we all know that this morning, we were not the only ones caught off guard by the rolled-up shutters along the line 2 in the east of the capital. And why is that? Because from this Wednesday, February 26 to Sunday, March 2, no station will be served between the stops Nation and Père-Lachaise, upgraded to the temporary (but no less glorious) title of temporary terminus.

5 dark days on the blue line

This week, we tell you, getting around by public transport is not necessarily the idea of the century. What’s the reason? There are works and traffic interruptions on 4 out of the 5 RER lines, as well as on 3 metro lines, namely line 14 (the classic), line 6 (you'll need to get used to it, it’s going to last a while), and line 2. It's a bit of a hassle!

t 5 days of closure that were announced recently, in order to carry out preventive maintenance operations.

A new constraint is spreading over 2 km and 4 stations, namely Nation (the traditional terminus), Avron, Alexandre Dumas, and Philippe Auguste. A closure of the same stretch already took place at the same time in 2023, and it seems that it wasn't enough to implement all the necessary renovations to ensure a better functioning of the system. And we know that “never two without three,” but we still hope that this time will be the right one.

Another big overhaul

The work being undertaken during these 5 days has the main goal of renewing tracks that have reached the end of their life. One track at the level of the back station and 500 m of rails at the terminus loop located at Nation. But also to change the motor of the two signaling systems.

set up exactly 2 years ago (while these systems normally have a lifespan of 30 years, a great representation of the reliability of RATP).

Throughout the entire duration of the operation, which is too significant to happen only during the normal closing hours of the lines, a replacement bus will be in place along the entire route. Passengers can also switch to other available lines at Nation, including lines 1, 6, and the RER A, or even line 3 at Père-Lachaise. And let’s not forget that these different stations are located no more than 20 minutes on foot from each other at both ends, and thata little walking has never hurt anyone.
