This week, from April 8 to 11, a new Paris Council is taking place, during which the various political parties in the capital will propose measures for the city's future. For this session, the elected members of the Modem and Independents groups are keen on making a statement in terms of “feminist urban planning” by suggesting to experiment with reserved parking spaces for women in the various underground parking lots managed by the City of Paris.
A measure that is part of a long political struggle
This is not the first time that the Paris Council has been presented with a proposal aimed at improving the place of women on the streets of the city, offering solutions to tackle harassment and assaults. Indeed, in 2017, Socialist Party (PS) member Caroline de Haas had suggested...
éré « to widen the sidewalks » in the La Chapelle neighborhood. While the proposal was not accepted at the time, it seems that thoughts have continued to develop since then, leading to a new idea to enhance security in the parking lots.
Concrete solutions to combat insecurity
On the agenda for this proposal that will be presented to the Paris Council in the coming days : enhancing security in parking lots by introducing reserved parking spots for female drivers. These will be located near the entrances, in well-lit areas, and most importantly, monitored by surveillance cameras. A way to « innovate in terms of security »!
and accessibility in public spaces, by exploring concrete solutions », say the concerned elected officials. According to testimonials from female drivers, to be effective, it will need to be accompanied by the establishment of good conditions. Indeed, too many of them report the absence of security guards, or malfunctioning lights and cameras. We're waiting for the Council's decision!
