A bombshell in the Parisian culinary scene! Table, chef Bruno Verjus's restaurant in the 12th arrondissement, which boasts two Michelin stars and was even named the world's third best restaurant in 2024, is taking a bow and closing its doors on December 22nd, after more than 13 years of delighting Parisians on rue de Prague. This announcement raises questions about the accessibility of "fine dining" and haute cuisine at its finest. Here's what you need to know.

The end of "fine dining"?

We told you about Table back in June 2024, when the World's 50 Best Restaurants ranking was revealed. Although Bruno Verjus's restaurant already had a Michelin star, it had climbed to third place in the ranking. An accolade that had given Table its worldwide reputation.

However, this won't be enough for the chef to sustain this gastronomic adventure. In a video interview published on Instagram by Prescription Studio, Bruno Verjus reflects on the decline of "fine dining." In other words, on his uncertain vision of haute cuisine, limited to a very small audience by its standards, codes, and especially its cost. For example, at Table, the "Color of the Day" menu costs €480, as our colleagues at Actu Paris remind us. It's easy to deduce, then, that not many people can afford dinner at such a price.

For a less elitist cuisine

Thirteen years at the helm and Bruno Verjus now aspires to a new form of cooking and a new adventure. Hardly surprising given

the profile! At 54, the chef has lived a thousand lives: medical studies, twenty years in China working for a medical equipment company, then food journalist and blogger in France, before opening his own restaurant. Over the years, the Table project took on an almost unexpected turn. From a neighborhood bistro, the restaurant now boasts two Michelin stars, where the chef works with small producers and gives pride of place to the "ingredient" at the heart of the plate. In ten years, the chef found himself behind one of the world's best restaurants.

But today, Bruno Verjus wants to reconnect with the public, those who delight in his dishes. "I want to feed people, but not just a select few," he explains on Instagram. And as Table prepares to serve its last guests at the end of 2026, December 22nd to be exact, we can't wait to see what form the chef's new project will take!
