"Remarkable Station": This Parisian Railway Station Receives an Unprecedented New Distinction

A few months ago, the SNCF decided to launch a new label for "remarkable stations," recognizing France's most beautiful railway buildings. And great news—the very first monument to receive this distinction is right in the capital!

Currently, the capital has 7 major railway stations in operation. And to say the least, from Montparnasse station to Gare de Lyon, passing through Bercy or Saint-Lazare, they all present very different appearances. However, one of them has managed to stand out by earning the brand new "remarkable station" label, becoming the first in France to benefit from such a title.


A world first

There are dozens and dozens of awards out there. Most frequented station, most original hotel, most indulgent breakfast… Yet, this clearly wasn't

not enough for SNCF, which decided to add its own contribution to this colossal rewards building, by creating a new title: « remarkable station ». A label awarded by the railway company to honor stations recognized for their architectural, historical or aesthetic value, throughout France. A project that also helps justify the 350 million euros invested each year by SNCF Stations and Connections in regenerating its stations. And for its very first year, it's a station in the heart of the capital that was elected: the Gare de Lyon!


A Jewel Under Construction

A well-deserved honor in our opinion, considering the magnificent Belle Époque façade of the building, adorned with voluptuous female forms symbolizing steam, electricity, navigation, and mechanics, which stands out thanks to its bell tower and carved stones. A heritage currently undergoing renovation until spring 2027, with the goal of cleaning the cherubs, the Art Nouveau pleats, and the flower clusters. A first since 1950, which should leave us with an even more spectacular station in the coming months. No fewer than 47 other stations should receive the same label in the coming weeks, including Austerlitz Station, Gare de l&r"East, Gare du Nord and Gare Saint-Lazare in the capital.
