What if we take a little height? No, we're not talking about climbing the Eiffel Tower or going to the top of the Montparnasse Tower, but about the highest apartment in Europe. You're not dreaming, it's actually in Paris, in the La Défense district.

Over 100 meters high

For most people in Paris, the goal is to reach the 6th or 7th floor of their building to get away from the noise and gain more light. But for some, that's not even a question. The Defense 2000 Tower, standing at 140 meters high, is home to the highest apartment in all of Europe on the 47th and top floor. And you can imagine the view from up there must be pretty amazing! Designed by architect Michel Proux in the 1970s, the tower houses over 300 apartments.

A Building Like in New York

Does it remind you of American skyscrapers? That's completely normal. According to Le Nouvel Obs, the architect was freely inspired by the Chase Tower in Chicago to design this tower on the outskirts of Paris. He even presented his project at the time under the name of "Manhattan Tower". However, the French did not go as high as their American counterpart, with the Chase Tower being nearly 126 meters taller than the Defense 2000 tower.

A height that is enough to make your head spin, just like the price the 1000 occupants of the building have to pay. In an interview with 20 Minutes, the caretaker shared: "Residents pay a lot but they love living here". Also speaking to 20 Minutes, a resident on the 44th floor expressed the challenges of living at such a height: "We never open the windows wide, because there's always such a strong wind that it disrupts part of the apartment".
