Could Paris be turning into an (almost) affordable city? While this question may come with a hint of irony, it’s not as rhetorical as it seems. For several weeks now, real estate prices have been dropping in the capital, reaching a price below 10,000€ per square meter. According to PAP, prices have actually decreased by 7.6% in just one year in Paris. This drop can be seen in many arrondissements.

The 17th arrondissement on the decline

In Paris, the average price per square meter is €9298. Recently, it was above the €10,000 mark, but now, the 17th arrondissement has reached €9940 per square meter. It now joins the 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 18th, 19th, and 20th arrondissements where prices range from €8172 (20th) to €9650 (11th). The 9th has also seen a significant drop of 10.6% over the last year. Over in Saint-Georges, the price per square meter is at €9630.

Meanwhile, the center and the 16th arrondissement still surpass the €10,000 mark, with prices varying from €10,409 (9th) to €14,900 (6th).

A national decrease

Paris isn't the only city where real estate prices are dropping. D

According to the barometer, Toulouse, Nantes, Lille, Lyon, Strasbourg, and Bordeaux are all in the same boat with prices having dropped from 0.8% to 2.5% since the beginning of the year. Meanwhile, cities like Nice, Montpellier, Marseille, and Rennes are experiencing a price increase of from 0.1% to 1.8%
