With repeated heatwave episodes between May and August, this summer of 2026 gave us a little taste of what our daily lives will look like in the future, if temperatures keep climbing like this. In Paris, temperatures reached up to 40°C and 40 days above 30°C were recorded — a record. As a result, France experienced excess mortality between July 3rd and 22nd, fires multiplied across the country and the French suffered. But with 10 additional degrees, what would we do?
50°C simulated on Place de la République
Friday, October 2, 2026, on Place de la Répub
cute;public, the Housing Foundation and Climate Sense are inviting Parisians to experience the reality of poorly insulated homes — known as "energy leaks" — in a climate where temperatures reach 50°C. A sweltering home will be specially recreated so that as many people as possible can become aware of this alarming reality — one in two homes fail to properly protect its residents in France.Voir cette publication sur Instagram
Similar exercises already organized in the capital
To raise awareness among the French about climate change and the increasingly hot summers awaiting us, Climate Sense regularly organizes simulations of this kind in the capital. Participants were notably invited to immerse themselves in a capsule at 50°C and to carry out physical and cognitive activities, which turned out to be much more challenging than you'd imagine. Heat forces the body to spend energy cooling itself down. The result? You get tired much faster, and both muscles and brain lack resources.
