We’ll have to wait just a little longer to rediscover the Palais de la Découverte. Closed to the public in 2021 for renovations, the reopening of the famous museum in the west wing of the Grand Palais—which has been around since 1937—has been continually postponed. In an interview with Parisien, Sylvie Retailleau, who was recently appointed president of Universcience, confirmed that a brand new Palais de la Découverte will be accessible starting in early 2027

A museum blending tradition and modernity

What to expect? A Palace of Discovery as magnificent as we remember it, but with a few tweaks and exciting new technologies. “There will always be the planetarium. But we’re going to mix in optical technology, which already existed to view the sky, with new digital technology. It will allow us to travel through space and galaxies ,” says the former education minister. The goal will also be to promote greater exchanges between researchers and the public, to explain “the scientific approach, reacting to current events,” she adds. At the same time, Les Étincelles, located in the 15th, will continue to...gather the public until the reopening of the Palace.

The City of Science and Industry getting a makeover soon?

Sylvie Retailleau will also be in charge of the renovation of the City of Science.

Conference on Universities and Industry. The idea is to anticipate the increasing costs due to the aging of the building. The president of Universcience expresses a desire to « launch the project starting in 2027 », while keeping the establishment partially open. « In this international context of attacks on science and misinformation, closing a science city in a democratic country would, for me, be a mistake », she asserts.
