She had hypnotized the spectators who came to see her soar in the Tuileries garden every evening during the Paris Olympics, and then she was removed at the end of the Paralympics. Since then, the question about her fate remained unanswered. Mystery solved: the Olympic cauldron will be reinstalled in the same place for three consecutive summers, up until the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. This decision was announced by the Ministry of Sports, as revealed by Franceinfo this Friday, January 31.

The Olympic Cauldron, a New Summer Tradition

Feeling spooked by the predicted influx of tourists during the Olympics, you may have fled the capital, only to regret not being able to admire the cauldron except through reports on France 2? Good news: the flame ring will be back in the sky starting from June 23rd until September 14th.

« It will return every summer. From the Music Festival to the Sports Festival, all the way to the Los Angeles Games Â», posted Emmanuel Macron on X this Friday morning. The President has joined forces with the Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati, and the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo. Their goal: « To revive the magic of rising in the sky of Paris Â» as the cauldron...

the Olympic Games have become a symbol of the popular excitement felt during the Games.

2.5 million euros to reignite the flame

The flame is being reborn, yes, but under certain conditions. According to the rules of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), it can’t shine outside the period of the Games. However, a special exception has been granted for Paris: the bowl, which is 100% electric, can be reignited but cannot be presented as the "Olympic flame". It will also change color, returning to the white light it emitted during the champions' parade on September 14, permanently giving up the yellow used during the Games.

The cost of getting it back up and running is estimated at 2.5 million euros. Part of the funding might be covered by the budget surpluses generated by the organizing committee of the Games.
