The temperatures are cooling down, and while there's no more talk of hitting the beach or taking a dip in the Seine, which is closed for swimming, the many municipal pools in the capital still offer a great alternative for avid swimmers in Paris. And here's some good news, a brand new establishment has just opened its doors in the 18th arrondissement, welcoming sports enthusiasts with over 3000 m². Let's head to the Solita Salgado pool.


A New Playground

For the past few days, there have been 2 brand new pools welcoming you in the 18th arrondissement, just a few steps away from the REcyclerie. One of them is 15 meters long, designed for aquatic fun…

cute; for children and swimming lessons, and the other for 25, aimed at more skilled swimmers. The goal is simple: to promote access to the pool for all children and families in the neighborhood. Similarly, both pools are 100% accessible for people with reduced mobility (PRM).

This new infrastructure, built on a former parking lot, pays tribute to the Colombian swimmer Solita Salgado, a naturalized French citizen in 1927, a national swimming champion and record holder in Europe for the 500m freestyle in 1930. She is an inspiring figure who managed to break the molds in a very masculine world. Throughout her life, she worked to make the sport more inclusive, for instance, by creating programs aimed at underprivileged children and people with disabilities.


A place designed for the environment

The building, inaugurated with great fanfare by the mayor of the 18th, Éric Legendre and the deputy mayor responsible for sport, the Olympic and Paralympic Games and...

His Pierre Rabadan also stands out for its environmental qualities . Throughout its construction, it received a number of labels. The bio-sourced building label for using bio-sourced materials like wood from French sources. The Fibois pact for the use of wood. The High Environmental Quality certification in the sports equipment category. Or the Biodiversity label for the biodiversity strategy implemented during construction. Additionally, the environmental focus includes the presence of green roofs, vegetated walls, and even the installation of birdhouses.
