In service since 1980 and welcoming around 550,000 travelers each day, line 13 has long been the biggest nightmare for Parisians. And we totally get it: chronic delays, outdated equipment, and record-breaking crowds during peak hours, there’s more than enough to traumatize

What’s changing for real

The main goal of these renovations is to solve the major crowding problem on the line. That’s why the 67 new trains for the line 13 will be much roomier than the old ones. Bye-bye partitions between carriages for one big train, reducing seating by one third, and widening stand-up spaces: the metro will be able to accommodate 35 more passengers per train.

But that’s not all! In these futuristic metros, riders will also enjoy charging ports.

USB, information screens, better soundproofing, and reversible air conditioning. No more 25-minute rides squished next to your neighbor that end in a splitting headache!

The goal, in the long run, is to make Line 13 the fourth fully automated line of the Paris network by 2032, after lines 1, 4, and 14. This will significantly increase the frequency of trains, from 36 to 40 trains per hour during peak times, which means a metro every 90 seconds!

Happiness is something you earn!

Before the 103 kilometers of tracks can welcome these new metros, the RATP needs to run a long series of tests: compatibility with the doors on the tracks, signaling systems, and more…

For this reason, the line will be closed 16 Sundays between May and December 2026. More specifically on May 3 and 17, June 7 and 28, August 2, 16, and 30, September 13, 20, and 27, October 11, November 1, 15, and 29, and finally, December 13. Replacement buses will be set up between Asnières-Gennevilliers-Les Courtilles and Porte de Clichy! We know it's a bit of a hassle, but it’s just a little bump on the road to a lot more happiness ahead!
