It’s an absolutely alarming observation: there has never been so many people without a fixed home in Paris and throughout Île-de-France. During the last edition of the Nuit de la solidarité held on January 22, 2026, volunteers went out to meet people experiencing homelessness and counted them in the capital and its suburbs. According to the figures revealed by the City of Paris on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, 4940 homeless people were counted in the City of Paris and the Greater Paris metropolitan area.

Nearly 4000 homeless people in Paris

3857 is the number of homeless people that over 2000 volunteers counted during the Nuit de la solidarité, compared to 3507 in 2025. This is an unprecedented 10% increase compared to 2025. In the

In 33 volunteer municipalities, 1,083 homeless people have been counted, which is a 32% increase. Volunteers have also noticed a rise in the number of encampments: 16 have been counted, more than double compared to last year. The only positive point: the proportion of women on the streets has decreased, it went from 14% to 11%.

A Sharp Increase in the Suburbs

It's in the near suburbs that the numbers become even more concerning. The cities of Saint-Denis and Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine are experiencing a skyrocketing increase in the number of homeless individuals — notably, 100 people counted in a camp in Saint-Ouen, compared to just 22 in 2025. « We've broken some sad records, even as we were under a Cold Weather Plan », lamented Léa Filoche, the deputy mayor of Paris in charge of solidarity, emergency housing, and refugee protection.
