In a interview with Parisien on Sunday, March 9, Valérie Pécresse shared this decision. For the past few years, there have been rumors about a continuous increase in the Navigo pass until 2031, and now it's official, as the elected official has confirmed the information. This is a tragic development for users of Parisian public transport, which is set to conclude when the massive and never-ending Grand Paris Express project is completed. Let's keep our fingers crossed that it won't be delayed even further...
An Inevitable Increase
For several years now, construction projects have been multiplying across Île-de-France. These giant works aim to establish new public transit lines in the region, such as the upcoming lines 15, 16, 17, and 18. It's a project that...one can only encourage, since it allows for a better connection between the different cities located around the capital and better links between strategic locations situated on the outskirts of Paris.
« Cette hausse se place dans le cadre d’un accord financier entre Île-de-France Mobilités et le gouvernement, qui prévoit une hausse modérée, mais régulière, des tarifs jusqu’en 2031. » 🤡 #Navigo https://t.co/yuj3KvdcVT

Well, you can imagine that a project of this scale costs quite a bit, especially to install the over 300 km of tracks that are expected to be completed by 2031. And to fund all these innovations, IDFM is counting on you ! To make that happen, the transport company plans to increase the price of the Navigo pass each year, in a way that’s “regular, but […] very moderate. So, it’s nice of them to want to ease our burden, but this is definitely some bad news.
Adjustments subject to inflation
We want to put your mind at ease right away, in her interview with Parisien, Valérie Pécresse defended herself against the notion of “raising prices for the fun of it”, assuring that this adjustment is inevitable.
However, it would allow you to pay a price much lower than what public transportation actually costs each month, which is about €270. It also explains that, considering the reimbursements provided by many employers, the increase would only affect us very slightly.Moi, quand j'ai reçu la lettre de Valérie Pécresse pour expliquer l'augmentation du Pass Navigo : pic.twitter.com/fABxVWMicU

For the little curious ones, know that the prices of the future Navigo pass can be more or less calculated in advance, since IDFM has made an agreement with the State that guarantees each year the increase cannot exceed inflation plus 1%. That’s why at the beginning of the year, with inflation set at 2%, the monthly pass price increased by 2.8%, going from 86.60€ to 88.80€. The only thing we hope for now is that the construction won't be delayed too much, pushing back the end of these increases that can sometimes be tricky to manage on a budget, despite everything Valérie Pécresse might say.
