A clear success that extends over twenty years of left governance… but also puts the new mayor in front of huge expectations from Parisians.
Another victory for the left
Former first deputy of Anne Hidalgo, Emmanuel Grégoire is no stranger to the City Hall. But this time, he’s at the helm all on his own. His victory, achieved against a united right, is built on a solid left coalition and a promise: to continue transforming Paris while being mindful of the criticisms. Housing, ecology, quality of life… his program was already clear during the campaign. Now, it’s time to take action.
A greener Paris… but less conflictual
Continuing in the spirit of the Hidalgo era, Emmanuel Grégoire aims to speed up the ecological transition: fewer cars, more greenery... He specifically plans to create...in 10 new parks, 1000 new pedestrian streets, a beach at the Arsenal harbor where Parisians could swim, and 25 km of green walkways along the banks of the Seine.

The tone is slightly changing, though. The aim is no longer just to transform, but to soothe. The new mayor promises better organization of mobility to prevent Paris from being seen as "blocked."
Housing: the top priority
This is the number one sore point in the capital. Emmanuel Grégoire has made it a cornerstone of his program: producing more accessible housing, better regulating tourist rentals, and facilitating property access for the middle class. A political line that is eagerly awaited in a city where finding housing is becoming a luxury.

Bringing new life to neighborhoods
Another priority: preserving what makes Paris special. The new mayor wants to support independent businesses, protect cafés, and limit the standardization of certain streets. The focus is on tackling dark stores and brands that are seen as too uniform. On the flip side, he aims to promote hybrid, cultural, and lively spaces.

Cleanliness, safety: the daily urgencies
Elected amidst strong criticism regarding the management of the city, Emmanuel Grégoire will not escape sensitive issues. Cleanliness, safety, management of after-school activities… the burning topics are already on the table as soon as he arrives. He promises more resources and a revamped organization, but it's definitely here where the expectations will be the highest.

An Upcoming Swearing-In
Just a heads up: even though the results are known, the official election of the mayor will take place during the Paris Council on March 29. In the meantime, Emmanuel Grégoire is enjoying a symbolic victory, celebrated Sunday evening with some bike rides and crowd mingling... before diving into the tough stuff!
