Like every year, New Year's Day 2026 will bring good news for all the French currently earning the minimum wage, with a new increase in its value. This welcome annual raise is determined by a group of experts who provide recommendations to the government. But what have they suggested for the upcoming year during their meeting on November 27th?

No big boost in sight

It’s a bit like the Navigo Pass. Every year, the minimum wage increases on January 1st, according to a rate close to inflation, to meet the expectations of some French people facing the rising cost of living. This is an automatic adjustment, which might eventually be revised &.

the increase by the government if it considers it necessary and feasible.

A nice little boost!

A significant increase, but still way too low according to the approximately 2.2 million employees in the private sector affected. The CGT is actually demanding a minimum wage of €2,000 gross, compared to €1,801.80 today. However, for those who feel a heavy heart at the thought of not getting an extra boost from the government, we want to reassure you, you're not alone, as this upward adjustment of the minimum wage has only happened once in history, in 2012, right after the election of François Hollande…
