These are complicated years ahead for all travelers at this Parisian station next year. What's the cause? A massive construction project at République station, starting next summer and continuing until 2034. Yep, you read that right—2034! The plan includes a successive closure of all lines, lasting more than a year each time. If you live nearby, we recommend you refresh your knowledge of the capital’s map to find alternative routes.

A much-needed modernization

Every day, République station, served by 5 lines (3, 5, 8, 9, and 11), sees no fewer than 250,000 users who hop on, hop off, or transfer here. And while we can understand the attraction, especially since the extension of line 11, this level of traffic brings its own challenges.

e;percussions on the state of the underground station. Especially since, after the redesign of the namesake square in 2013, the station has been suffering from serious infiltration issues.

For the safety and comfort of everyone, the RATP has decided to tackle the problem head-on by coming up with a gigantic construction project to rehabilitate the infrastructure weakened by water, as well as to accommodate the rising number of passengers. The plan includes: setting up a shield, renovating the vaults, floors, and ceilings, improving lighting and signage, and finally reorganizing the station's flow.

A construction project in 5 steps

However, due to the project's importance, the Paris transport authority has decided to carry out the construction... line by line! While it's great to know that the station won't be completely inaccessible for a while, we should be prepared for work lasting at least 8.

ans, involving the successive closure of each line, for durations between 13 and 24 months according to the latest information. So we start with line 8 starting from July 22nd and continuing until spring 2027. Next up is line 9, between 2028 and 2029, then line 5 from 2029 to 2030, followed by line 11 where the work will span from 2031 to 2032, and finally, in grand style, line 3 from 2033 to 2034. Alright, good luck everyone, and may the Hunger Games begin!
