Metro: RATP Files Notice of Unlimited Strike for Next Week

We're getting used to construction work. Traffic regulations too. Still, it's been a while since we've had to deal with a public transportation strike. Well, we hope you haven't gotten too comfortable with that special treatment, because it could start up again as early as next Monday.

The news dropped early this week, and let's just say it's far from putting us in a good mood. This Tuesday, September 22nd, the CGT-RATP filed an unlimited strike notice covering the entire network, starting this Monday, September 28th from 7pm. And to say the least, it could cause quite a few headaches, both in the metro and on buses, trams, and the RER…


A dark day for the country

This Tuesday, September 29th, a nationwide mobilization for the defense of public services was announced across France. It's within this framework that the majority union of the RATP filed a strike notice that begins

starting from the evening before, without specifying an end date. In the statement published on social media, the CGT calls on all RATP EPIC (Public Industrial and Commercial Establishment) workers to join this movement, suggesting consequences for all lines and all types of transport. A radical stance that follows disagreements in mid-September following a social alert filed by the union.


Strong Demands

The CGT is backing up this strike notice by highlighting the significant drop in purchasing power, as well as the surge in fuel prices. They're therefore calling for a €600 fuel bonus per employee, which was rejected just a few weeks ago. The union also wants to renegotiate allowances given to employees working night shifts or irregular hours, and an automatic indexing of salaries to inflation. Finally, this strike aims to achieve the "immediate reopening of annual mandatory negotiations," the NAO, which were abandoned last March following a disagreement. For now, no information has been released by the RATP regarding

the duration and consequences of the strike on transportation, but promise, we'll keep you posted as soon as we know more!
