If, in recent months, the development of future network lines and the Grand Paris Express plans were making huge strides forward, notably with the imminent opening of line 18, it seems that this time, the brakes have been applied at full force. At only a few months from the end of construction, the opening of lines 16 and 17 has just been postponed… once again!

An endless wait

The announcement from the Major Projects Company came down like a thunderbolt for a number of users of public transport in the Île-de-France region. Indeed, according to the company in charge of managing the new metro lines, line 16, which will connect Saint-Denis-Pleyel and Noisy-Champs, will now open at l&rsqu

Fall 2028, not late 2027. And only for the first section, since the rest will open in 2029. On line 17, which for its part will run between Saint-Denis and Le Mesnil-Amelot, it's the same story. A first section pushed back to fall 2028, a second in 2029, and even a third in 2030 ! A schedule delay due to much longer construction work than expected to ensure the building of infrastructure, secure future connections, and more.

And what about the others in all this?

And unfortunately, this opening delay is only the latest in a long series. Indeed, a few months ago, the opening of line 15 — originally scheduled for 2022, let's remember, was pushed back once again, with a service launch hoped for in 2027. And while, for the past few months, all our hopes were resting on line 18, whose opening was supposed to be the only one to stay on schedule, it seems that we were a bit too confident too, since this one has also been recently delayed. It remains nonetheless the least catastrophic situation, since this time we're talking about a maiden voyage pr

scheduled for October 2026 postponed to December. In the meantime, we're closely following the progress of all this work, and keeping our fingers crossed to see these beautiful lines running one day !
