Yes, in recent years, the progress of the Grand Paris Express project has been quite an emotional rollercoaster for our nerves, especially with the opening of line 15 being pushed back over and over. It seems we are finally on a plane heading to cloud nine. And for good reason, line 18 should finally fulfill our wishes, with a scheduled opening as early as next autumn. Even better, its construction is on a very (very) good track.
A Major Advancement
Promised as a new major route for traveling in the Île-de-France region, line 18, in a lovely mint green or glacier blue (which quite cunningly resembles line 6's color), is set to open its doors by 2030. But a first section is expected to be operational a bit sooner, starting next October, between the stations.
s de Massy-Palaiseau and Christ-de-Saclay. And the latest tests are showing miracles for future users. In fact, not only have they broke speed records (a whopping 110 km/h, while the maximum recorded speed was only 80 km/h until now), but also, in the last few days, the first driverless journeys have been completed, and everything went smoothly without a hitch. The final crucial step before opening: the security commission review, likely in June.La phase 2 de la ligne 18🚇, entre Massy-Palaiseau et l’aéroport d’Orly✈️, POURRAIT ouvrir en 2027 AVANT la phase 1 des lignes 15, 16, 17...

A Packed Schedule Ahead!
So, while the first tracks for these futuristic subways are set to start running in just a few months, when can we expect to see the entire lines fully operational? The answer is simple: not just yet. But since we’re feeling generous, we’re sharing with you the currently announced schedule by IDFM, hoping that this time the deadlines will be respected. So here’s what to expect, line by line and section by section, for now:
