Metro: these lines could be disrupted by the heatwave

We all know that living in the capital, there are plenty of reasons for disruptions on the metro. Strikes, construction, traffic regulation, people on the tracks. And more recently, a new cause has been added to the list: the heatwave. Indeed, since this weekend, several lines, especially RER lines, have been affected by the intense heat. And unfortunately, as the heatwave peaks this Tuesday, June 23, and Wednesday, June 24, things aren't likely to get better. So, which trains are most likely to be slowed down ?

Everyone is succumbing to the heat

While we, poor Parisians, are practically melting from the intense heat in recent days, we are far from being the only ones suffering.

This heatwave is quite something, isn't it? Indeed, the infrastructure is just as affected as we are, which does have an impact on our daily lives. The rise in temperatures causes the expansion of the outdoor tracks, overheats the overhead power lines that deliver electricity, and even affects the systems that regulate traffic. To prevent things from getting worse, Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) has decided to take some proactive measures by already announcing delays and cancellations. In practice, the 5, 6, 8, and 13 metro lines may experience traffic reductions in the afternoon. The service on the RER A and B lines could also be reduced, along with the C, D, and E lines, and the Transilien, with 9 trains out of 10 on average., with a few possible deletions.

Ways to Stay Cool

In this situation, the RATP recommends to limit your travel as much as possible for everyone who can. On our side, we especially suggest that you stick to air-conditioned lines, which are lines 1, 2, 5, 9, 11, and 14. As for the lines 4 and 10, it's a bit of a gamble, since only part of their fleet is equipped with air conditioning. On the RER side, while the traffic is more affected, 93% of the trains offer air conditioning systems — some are more effective than others, but that's definitely better than nothing. And no matter what, we wish you lots of courage, remember to protect yourself, stay hydrated at all times, and check in on at-risk individuals, dear Bonbecs!
