We’ve known for a while, but taking the subway in Paris this summer is likely to not be all smooth sailing. While the 3 has already been closed on its best half for a few days now, it’s now the 4’s turn to face the music, with no less than 13 stations closed since yesterday morning, and this until the beginning of next week.

Almost half of the line out of service

From July 5 to 14 inclusive, no trains will be running between the stations Les Halles and Porte d’Orléans, giving these stations the temporary, yet no less honorable title of temporary terminus. Throughout the whole period, which lasts for about ten days, line 4 will be split into 2 sections, in northern Paris and in the south of the capital, with no trains running.

circulating between the two, and no guaranteed correspondence.

We want to clarify that only line 4 is affected, and that the other lines will continue to run even in the stations served by the purple line. A replacement bus will also be provided between the Denfert-Rochereau and Porte d'Orléans stops. And if you need to travel between Les Halles and Denfert, unfortunately, you’ll have to find your own way (we’ll give you a little help, the RER B is making the trip and won’t be — yet — under construction).

Construction that will last all summer

Behind this closure is yet another comprehensive modernization project for the Paris transport network. And even though it’s a bit of a hassle for us, we can only applaud the project, which will allow us to enjoy an exceptional metro in the future. This time on the agenda is the &laqu;o; replacement of two tracks at the Odéon station and the rails between Citée and Saint-Germain-des-Prés stations, as well as waterproofing work at the Montparnasse station ». And let’s not forget, during the 8 days of work, there’s also a long weekend hidden in there! So, let’s take the chance to escape the capital and recharge our batteries before facing the disruptions on the 9 other lines planned for this summer…
