Metro: the extension of line 1 is once again under consideration

For a few years now, the extension of line 1 between Château de Vincennes and Val de Fontenay has been talked about by the RATP. While it seemed like things had come to a standstill in recent months, the work is still relevant, and the project could see a fresh start as soon as autumn 2026.

As the extension and expansion of the Paris metro network has been progressing nicely in recent years (pun intended), it seems that Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) doesn’t want to stop there, with numerous projects in the works. Among them is the extension of line 1, the oldest line in the capital, between the Château de Vincennes and Val de Fontenay stations. Let’s take a look at the progress of the project.


A Surmountable Obstacle

It’s been over 10 years — since 2015 to be precise — that Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) has announced the possible extension of the yellow line. However, last year, the project hit a snag as the validity of the project was called into question...

Public consultation established in 2022 was coming to an end, which hit hard, as some immediately saw it as the end of a cycle, and the death in the egg of this idea.

Yet, a few weeks ago, IDFM made sure to reassure its users: the work, even if it might be a bit different, is still on track. Indeed, starting this autumn, a new public consultation will be organized to raise several questions, especially the one that gets the most thought: how to manage the construction in the wood area while preserving biodiversity? But also how to minimize the disturbances for the neighborhood, and consider the ecological aspect of the whole project.


A project that could change the daily lives of many

The new consultation does have some differences compared to the one established in 2022, especially regarding the connection of the extension with the already existing terminus, and the integration of the new stations in their surroundings.

respective neighborhoods. Changes that we hope will bring everyone together (or at least the majority) so this extension can be realized soon. Just to remind you, the plan is quite simple. Extend the yellow metro line by adding 3 new stations after the current terminus at the Château de Vincennes: Les Rigollots (Fontenay-sous-Bois), Grands Pêchers (Montreuil), and Val-de-Fontenay (Fontenay-sous-Bois), where the RER A and E currently meet, and soon the line 15!
