The New Year is always the perfect time to reflect on the past year and start to look forward to the future by imagining all the possibilities that the coming year has to offer. A New Tune
This is probably the biggest change we can expect, and we’re not even exaggerating. Gone are the five guitar notes that have been accompanying us in the metro corridors since 2005; in 2026, Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) has decided to introduce a new sound identity.

Scary New Prices Ahead
Well, we've mentioned this before, but a little reminder never hurts! Starting on January 1, 2026, the Pass Navigo, as well as the single tickets and airport tickets, are gearing up for a new price hike that isn't exactly exciting. Just like every year, the monthly pass will now be 2€ more expensive, going from 88.80€ to 90.80€. The annual pass, on the other hand, is nearing 1000€, now costing 998.80€. The same goes for the Liberté+ and single tickets. We know, it’s a bit of a downer, so we’d rather not dwell on it too much to avoid rubbing salt in the wound. But for the brave among you, we're sharing all the details right here.

The Definitive Disappearance of Paper Tickets
There’s been a lot of buzz about the end of an era, with the pure and simple disappearance of all paper transport tickets. While these tickets were permanently removed from sale on November 5th, they’ll officially exit our lives for good starting June 1, 2026. Indeed, RATP, in its great generosity, has decided to give us a transition period, during which paper tickets will still be accepted until the slot validators are replaced. To be proactive, we suggest you head to a station ticket counter to exchange them for an Easy card (for a fee of €2 if you don’t have one yet), where they will all be transferred.

A brand-new, beautiful metro
Fortunately, while the year 2026 looks a bit challenging financially, it still holds some lovely surprises. First off, we can mention the arrival of the new MF19 trains on line 7bis. After line 10, these metros of the future are getting ready to grace a number of lines, and honestly, if you've taken line 7bis recently, you know it's fantastic news that it's among the first to be modernized.
Similarly, 2026 will mark a very symbolic milestone in the development of the Grand Paris Express, with the opening of the first section of the line 18. This is excellent news that could transform the daily lives of thousands of commuters, and it lifts our spirits a bit knowing that it’s .the only new line that will finally open on time.

Finally, the service will be boosted on several lines, in both the metro and the RER as well as the Transilien, to adapt to the new habits of travelers and meet the demand. This is fantastic news that should put an end to endless waiting times and those journeys where you find yourself pressed against a window, a suitcase on your foot, and a pole in your face, squeezed between 47 passengers.
Construction Everywhere
Well, you probably guessed it, but the year 2026 will also see a number of more or less inconvenient construction projects across the entire network. For example, we can mention the closure of République on line 8 for 9 months, as well as major RER stations being closed.
