Get ready, it might surprise you! On Saturday, March 22, the initiative « Earth Hour » is making a grand comeback in the capital. What is it all about? For one hour, the city of Paris will be plunged into darkness. So, expect to see some street lights, as well as the most famous Parisian monuments, completely turned off for this operation aimed at reducing energy consumption and light pollution

The greatest monuments bathed in twilight

In the four corners of Paris, the most iconic streets, squares, and monuments will be enveloped in complete darkness. From 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, the Eiffel Tower, Parc des Princes, the Louvre Museum, the Petit Palais, the Opéra Garnier, Notre-Dame, Sacré-Cœur, the City Hall, the Academy of Climate, the Panthéon, the Hôtel des Invalides, the Champs-Élysées, the Place de la Concorde, the Vendôme Column, the Columns of the Throne, the Alexander III Bridge, and the Bir-Hakeim Bridge will be in twilight.

A project in place for over 15 years

This annual initiative has been organized by WWF since 2007. It aims to raise awareness among residents about climate change, particularly about light pollution, which has a significant impact on ecosystems. In addition to this lights-out event, activities for reconnecting with nature designed for families will be held in Floral Park, the Pré Catelan garden, Choisy Park, and André Citroën Park.

To contribute to this effort, the Paris Council voted on a Climate Plan last year, with the goal of reducing light pollution from street lighting and buildings by 50%. Since 2021, the capital has been turning off various lights in closed parks at night.
