We know that often, to see auroras borealis, you need to meet a certain number of criteria, especially being in the right place (preferably in a northern location) at the right time (usually at night). But this time, the good places have multiplied! And for good reason, a solar activity of rare intensity has swept across the Earth in recent days, offering France and many other countries an exceptional show.

The Sky on Fire
If, in the north of Europe, like in Lapland, the northern lights are quite common phenomena, it is much rarer to have the chance to enjoy them from our country. Yet, less than 72 hours ago, surprise! These marvelous lights were clearly visible in different parts of France, and what’s more, to the naked eye, no special equipment needed!

Following a strong solar activity and a eruption on the star, releasing an extremely large amount of coronal mass (CME), allowing it to travel to much lower latitudes than usual, colorful clouds have descended upon Île-de-France and Oise, painting the sky with beautiful shades of pink and orange between 3am and 5:30am on Wednesday, November 12. And even though these were less visible in the heart of the capital (thanks to light pollution), some lucky ones got to enjoy it !
A picture is worth a thousand words
All over the country, professional and amateur photographers are...
they rushed to capture this moment unlike any other. And we thank them for it, because the snapshots, taken from Alsace to Brittany, from Normandy to Indre, are simply stunning. And since there are performances that speak for themselves, we’ll let you enjoy a few exceptional images from this magical night, so you can appreciate its full splendor.Aurores boréales in #paris #now pic.twitter.com/R0wH8UKhOS
