The RER in Paris is a bit of a gamble. While it's often hated by Parisians, who swear by the metro and see it as a shady place where Satan rules the roost, it's on the flip side admired by suburbanites, who view it as a gateway to enjoy the delights of the capital in just a few minutes. However, everyone agrees on one precise point: whatever the line, its operation is far too often chaotic. And bad news, this new announcement just proves them right.
Five and a half weeks of struggles on the yellow line
One week, that's fine. Two weeks, why not. Three, we're beginning to reach the limit, but we can still handle it. But now, IDFM has truly crossed the boundaries of our tolerance, and that of all the commuters in the Île-de-France region.RER C, announcing almost 6 consecutive weeks of service interruption this summer. And to make things even more interesting, the closures will happen on several sections of the line, just to ensure everyone is nicely inconvenienced.
So, yes, we know it makes sense to do this in summer because people go on vacation, the capital empties out, the transportation too, and so on. But let’s not forget that some of us are stuck in the heart of Paris during a heatwave to pay the rent, and normally, the RER C provides a lovely way to take some quick getaways and affordable trips on weekends.
Le rer c ça commence à faire bcp la… 😮💨😮💨😮💨

In the West, Nothing New
In detail, no trains will run between the station Gare d'Austerlitz and some of the western terminals of the line, including Versailles, Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (and therefore Issy), and Avenue Henri-Martin, from July 15 to August 22. To top it all off, as if that wasn’t enough, the last western segment, which runs from Avenue Henri-Martin to Pontoise, will be closed from August 1 to August 23.
Enft le RER c pas comme le métro genre y a plein de destination sur un même quai pq on nous apprend pas ça à l’école

Behind these extremely strict closures, let's be honest, there are modernization works and equipment replacements, especially to protect the lines from floods of the Seine, but also to prepare for the interconnection with the future line 15 in Issy. Alternative solutions, like the introduction of replacement buses on certain sections, should be announced soon.
