Is the opening of line 18 finally delayed too?

Our good faith will be our downfall. Just when we wanted to give Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) the benefit of the doubt and believe they could be on time with a project delivery, alas, the transport management company proves once again that we can't trust them. While the first section of line 18 was supposed to be operational by next autumn, that date might be slightly pushed back.

A project moving forward like clockwork

Just a few months ago, we shared our excitement about the upcoming opening of metro line 18, whose initial tests were nothing short of amazing. It's worth mentioning that the future trains have simply shattered records. Indeed, between the Massy-Palaiseau and Christ-de-Saclay stations,..., a top speed of no less than 110 km/h was recorded at the beginning of the year. This speed is quite impressive, as it shatters the previous record held by the 14 by no less than 30 km/h ! And it must be said that, generally speaking, and in line with these tests, the construction of the mint-green line is progressing quickly. Very quickly. The installations and technical performances are rolling out smoothly, suggesting the work is well on schedule. But then why could the opening be delayed ?

A Complicated Dialogue

To get answers, it’s no surprise that we need to turn to the administrative side (and we all know, paperwork is always a hassle). Indeed, the management of the future line is shared between the Society of Major Projects (SGP), the two public transport groups Kéolis and RATP, and finally IDFM, who need no introduction. It seems that the first three operators are having a bit of trouble getting in sync, especially when it comes to information sharing like the final maintenance plans or the technical documentation of the installations. The four parties will meet next month to decide together on the definitive opening date, which is still a bit unclear for the moment.

and we hope to be pleasantly surprised... in a good way!
