The Paris metro is never very pleasant. Between the delays, the smells, and the crowds, those corridors sometimes turn into a preview of hell. Yet, every now and then, it surprises us with some lovely surprises. For instance, it transforms into a celebration ground after France's victory in the World Cup, becomes a horror mansion for Halloween, or turns into a true library open to everyone.

A masterstroke…

This is a marketing campaign that truly feels like a masterstroke. On the occasion of the release of volume 8 of Millennium, The Girl in the Lynx's Clutches, Actes Sud has decided to make a lasting impression by drawing inspiration from the character of the main heroine, Lisbeth Salander. By breaking free from codes and authority, the publishing house has gifted Parisian metro users the entire novel, the second volume of the third trilogy in the saga. Yes, it’s indeed the 397 pages of the book that have been displayed in vibrant colors, posted on massive advertising boards. A symbolic artistic gesture that truly captures the spirit of the novels imagined by Stieg Larsson, making information circulate at any cost. A wonderful way to remind everyone that reading allows us to escape no matter where we are.

… but not a trial run

If this campaign is quite successful, it’s probably because it’s not the first time Actes Sud has tried such a promotion. Indeed, back in 2010, for the release of the novel The Hypnotist by Lars Kepler (who is also Swedish), the publisher had, under similar circumstances, revealed pages from the book. However, it was not the entire work, but simply the first pages, to spark some interest. In any case, we don’t know if any readers took the time to read Millennium from A to Z on a poster, but we hope it allowed some to have a better start to their day and take a little time for themselves, away from the daily hustle and bustle.
