As 2024 became, just a few months ago, the year with the highest rainfall rate in 24 years, 2025 is setting a new meteorological record by marking June as the 2nd hottest month in history since the heatwave of 2003. Average temperatures were recorded at 3.3°C above normal, and this doesn’t bode well for what’s to come.
An Intense Heat Wave
38° in Paris, 40° in Toulouse; lately, the thermometer has gone red everywhere, except for the Brittany tip (just to keep the butter safe). Such frightening temperatures, which, while not reaching the level of the 2003 heatwave (3.6° above average), have still smashed the 2019 record. This is more proof, if it were needed, of the warming, this relatively long heatwave is the 50th recorded since 1947, and the 33rd of the 21st century. This heatwave, which started around June 19, came to an end in the very early days of July, leaving behind a number of quite alarming figures.
Juin 2025 devient le deuxième mois de juin le plus chaud jamais enregistré en France depuis 1900, juste derrière juin 2003.

Records in Every Direction
The recorded temperatures throughout the entire month (which actually started off quite cool) have surpassed the average temperatures for this period by a whopping 3.3°. It’s not too surprising, considering that the 40° mark was crossed 5 times during the month, which is quite rare. Similarly, the number of consecutive days above 35° in the same city is very unusual for the season: 11 in Avignon – the record, set in 2019, was 7 – 9 in Toulouse or Nîmes, and even 4 in Colmar. The most unfortunate record this year, the day of June 30, made a dramatic entrance into the top 11 of the hottest days ever recorded in France since 1947. An increase in temperature that unfortunately goes hand in hand with .a decline in rainfall, suggesting an extremely dry summer…
