In less than ten days, the kick-off of the 2024 Olympic Games will be given. The competition will take place from July 26 to August 11 and will bring together 10,500 athletes from all over the world in 329 events. When it comes to the Olympics, it means medals, and when it comes to medals, it means rewards. And for this edition, the bonuses that French athletes will receive have been increased compared to previous years.

Prizes ranging up to €80,000

If during the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, the gold medalists received €65,000, at the Paris 2024 Games, they will receive a check for €80,000. For silver medals, this bonus will be €40,000 compared to €25,000 previously, while for bronze medals the amount will be €20,000 compared to €15,000 three years ago. As indicated by Eurosport, coaches will benefit from the same amounts.

Varied amounts depending on the nations

However, the bonuses are not the same from one country to another, since each is free to pay the athletes as they see fit.

Whether or not to award bonuses to its medal-winning athletes, and if so, how much to give. For example, Singapore and Taiwan pay over €.600,000 to their medal-winning athletes. In the United States, this reward amounts to around €35,000, while on the other hand Norway and New Zealand do not pay anything to their athletes. International sports federations may also offer a certain amount to their winners, in addition to what is paid at the national level. This is the case with the International Athletics Federation, World Athletics, which for the 2024 Paris edition, plans to pay $50,000 to its gold medalists.
