Last week, during her trip to Paris, Fatima Saida didn't quite find the famous City of Light, but instead encountered shadows of racism lurking in the streets. The 22-year-old Moroccan influencer shared her experience on social media, detailing an incident that took place on Marinoni Street in the 7th arrondissement as she strolled near the Eiffel Tower with a friend. "I felt his spit on my veil"

"We were just chatting, me and my friend, when a jogger passed by us. And then, he spat on me. I felt his spit on my veil," Fatima writes on her Instagram account, where she has around 400,000 followers. According to Fatima, the man kept running while saying something in French that she couldn't understand, and then he even flipped her off. She decided to film the incident, but the man responded by spitting at her again. Fatima Saida didn't take this lightly, and she filed a complaint. Being an influencer, she even recorded herself as she filled out the official documents. She's convinced that this attack was not only misogynistic but also racist. In an interview with Le Parisien, she said that the man intentionally spat on her because she was wearing a hijab. "The fact that he spat on me twice, even when he knew he was being filmed, shows his confidence that he won't face any consequences. We were just two girls, defenseless, who he decided to harass because of the way we choose to dress," she expressed.

The City Reacts

Alerted by this testimonial, the City of Paris has strongly condemned the denounced acts, which represent both an aggression against the Muslim religion and against women, according to Emmanuel Grégoire, Deputy Mayor of the City.
