Since 2008, L’International has been a must-visit hub for all the players in the Parisian alternative scene. Its basement has hosted thousands of local and international bands, and welcomed countless spectators on the lookout for musical novelties… In short, this legendary venue is packed with memories.
Unfortunately, it's time for a new chapter for L’Inter. Following an initial closure in early 2024 for major renovations, a series of ups and downs and a project put on hold, L’International announces it will be closing its doors for good, starting on April 26.
More than a concert hall, a community hub
Back in February, L’International was already sounding the alarm. But to fully understand the situation, let’s take a step back in time. In January 2024, the L’Inter team made the tragic discovery of a significant construction flaw in the ground floor, affecting the ceiling of the famous basement. The venue then closed its doors to address the issue.
security of all, and had continued its programming outside the walls with a series of concerts in various Parisian spaces. The ground floor had finally been able to reopen to the public – following temporary reinforcement work – but this improvised setup couldn’t last long. Since August 11th, construction has come to a standstill. And for a good reason: the request for assistance from the National Music Center (CNM) was denied. This was a real blow for L’Inter, which tried everything up to the end and even filed an appeal to demonstrate the importance of small venues for the musical ecosystem in Paris and for the professional development of local and national artists.
Last party on April 26th!
« We tried, we resisted, we fought no matter the cost, but unfortunately, no miracle happened. » Due to a lack of funding, the L'Inter team hasn't found a concrete solution to quickly start the renovations and save the venue. The International and its teams – who embody the spirit of the place – announced in a statement on Wednesday, April 16th that they will be taking their final bow on April 26th and, of course, plan to give it their all for these last two nights.
e;res weeks. And while the future of the space remains unknown for now, we already know that its ultimate evening will be unforgettable. For its last party, we'll be treated to concerts galore, featuring a bunch of artists from here and beyond who are also coming to say their goodbyes to this iconic concert hall in the Parisian music scene. Following that, a frenzy of dance and music will take over until the end of the night, with a general tour offered by the team.Voir cette publication sur Instagram
« We would have loved for this to last FOREVER. But we are so proud of what we’ve built over the past years. And we did it together, with you. » Thank you L’Inter, you will always live on in our hearts.
