The Gare de Lyon, much like Two-Face from Batman, is undoubtedly the most dual station in the capital. On one side, it boasts a stunning façade, with its clock tower, broad esplanade, and gorgeous cut stones. On the other side, though, Bercy side, it tells a different story. Luckily, in just a few (long) months, all of this should change.
Making Travel Easier
Last September, yet another construction project kicked off in the capital, near the Rue de Bercy, aimed at transforming the image of Gare de Lyon. The goal? To make the Seine side of the monument more pleasant and accessible! To achieve this, the S...

Among the big projects: the creation of better access to the station from the underground area, the establishment of less visible delivery spaces, the relocation of the bus parking, as well as the creation of a brand new secure bike parking that can accommodate up to 600 bicycles. All of this will come with much clearer signage to make life easier for everyone.
Creating a haven of peace
Beyond the logistical aspects, the Lyon station on the Seine side aims to become a warm and welcoming place by transforming itself to better serve the passengers. To achieve this, the upper part of the street (also known as the Bercy promenade) will be turned into a green walkway, featuring a freshness island.

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait just a little longer to enjoy this massive transformation! The project isn't expected to wrap up until 2029. On the other side of the building, the main facade is also undergoing renovations to get the facelift it truly deserves. Thankfully, this time, we won’t have to wait as long to see the results. And at least, in a few years, the Gare de Lyon will be looking fabulous!
