Less than 50 days left until the big opening ceremony - set to take place on the beautiful Seine River. But don't worry, the Paris city hall has decided to postpone Hidalgo's splash event scheduled for June 23. It seems like a bit of a comedy of errors here. First, concerns about water quality, and now high water levels causing some hiccups. The Olympic Games organizing committee and the city of Paris are adjusting their plans in a scramble. A test event with the organizing team set for June 10 has been postponed. Unfortunately, free swimming in the Seine River has been canceled due to the fast water flow. รŽle-de-France region authorities announced that the Seine is currently flowing at 349 cubic meters per second, well above the usual rate of 100 cubic meters per second.Imagine a speed so fast that it could be dangerous for the athletes participating and even for our beloved mayor, whom we affectionately call the queen of construction projects. To ensure everyone's safety, a decision has been made to delay her little swim by a week. It may seem like a small matter, but a wise choice nonetheless... Hidalgo will now dip her toes in the water, but not until June 30th. Let's hope that the heavy rains of recent weeks, which also led to the cancellation of the opening ceremony rehearsal, will have subsided by then. Originally set for the end of May, the rehearsal for the ceremony is now scheduled for June 17th. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Are we ready... or is there more to come? As of now, while the city hall is optimistic about improvements in the coming days, especially with the new sewage tanks at the Austerlitz train station, nothing is certain. So, the triathlon, swimming marathon, and paratriathlon events may also face changes. Events scheduled to take place next to the Seine are in jeopardy. But faced with a situation that has still led some Parisians to gather to go poop in the Seine during the mayor's swim, it seems that the only plan B is to postpone the events, without changing the location.Isn't it strange to consider how the Seine River's flow is linked to the unexpectedly high levels of fecal bacteria? Perhaps all these delays are simply a tactic to prevent embarrassment and preserve their reputation. Let's cross our fingers that it doesn't become an "Under the Seine" scenario in real life, putting lives at risk just to maintain appearances. Definitely a story worth keeping an eye on!
