Walking on foot in the capital when it's 35, 36, 38, or even 40°C is something we've done, and it's definitely not an experience we're excited to repeat. Thankfully, some tools are starting to emerge to help us get through these heatwave episodes that, unfortunately, might become more and more common in the coming years. Among them is Fraichoù.fr : a super smart GPS that helps you plan your routes so you can stay as cool as possible.

Maybe not the shortest route, but definitely the coolest
The concept is simple: enter your destination and Fraichou will calculate the easiest, shortest, and most importantly, the coolest path so you arrive without melting along the way. The goal: “[optimize] freshness rather than distance using public data (building heights for shade, tree alignments, parks, and water points).”

In Paris, many cool spots have been created to give Parisians a little moment of refreshment when temperatures exceed 30°C. The city hall has listed them all on a map, so you can find the one closest to you!
New cities coming soon
This site developed by Axel Aubry, an engineer from Rennes, is currently available for the cities of Rennes, Lille, Paris, and Nantes. Voting is open for users to choose the next cities they'd like to see added soon. Lyon, Toulouse, and Bordeaux are leading in the votes, followed by Limoges, Orléans, and Grenoble. There's also an option to suggest your city if you like!
